Gerd Priebe, a German based architecture firm, has completed a new curved office building to expand Saegeling Medizintechnik’s medical equipment complex in Heidenau, Germany. The new building is “organically formed….and sets a striking architectural highlight directly adjacent to the existing company headquarters,” explained the architects.
More about the new office building after the break.
The architects did not wish their new structure to dominate the existing small scale buildings that occupy the neighborhood, so the elegantly curved form fits harmoniously into the existing city’s planning context. ”The organically formed plans of the new building achieve not only an instantly recognizable and intelligent relationship to the company’s field of business, but also allow an optimal integration of the surrounding outdoor space,” explained the architects.
The new office building is subdivided into two main functional areas: the southern section “public area” which includes a double height entrance hall, and the northern section which includes internal functions such as the company’s large open office area floor plan. This division helps the design achieve an optimal usage of the available area.
A transparent glass skin wraps the building’s curving façade, weaving between outdoor areas and creating an open interior for all the office spaces. ”The meandering line of the building allows the visitor constantly new views and its interaction with the structure enable a lively game of shadow and light in the inner space to take place,” explained the architects.
